Creativity is such a helpful skill when it comes to problem-solving. Whether you are trying to find ways to reduce costs, increase revenue, or solve some other issue you’re facing at your business, creative thinking can help. Creative problem-solving is using your imagination and ideas to find solutions to problems that seem impossible or difficult to solve.

Define the problem

When you’re trying to come up with solutions to a problem, you need to first understand the problem. What are you trying to solve? Once you understand the problem, you can tackle it. This can be done in a variety of ways. First, write down the problem. Writing down the problem will help you clarify it. Next, identify the root causes.

What’s causing the problem, and why is it occurring? If you can identify the causes behind the problem, you’ll be better equipped to find solutions.

Brainstorm ideas

Once you understand the problem, you can start to brainstorm ideas for solutions. Use all of your creativity, as well as your knowledge of your industry and skills, to come up with ideas for how to solve the problem. For instance, let’s say you’re experiencing cash flow issues.

You may be able to come up with some ideas for how to solve this problem, such as applying for a short-term loan, increasing your prices, or identifying and increasing your cash flow.

Evaluate your options

Once you have your ideas for solutions, you need to evaluate each one. Start by asking yourself if the solution is realistic. Does the solution fit with your business? What resources do you need to implement the solution? How will the solution affect your customers? After you’ve evaluated each solution, select the two or three that appear to be the best options for you.

Remember, you don’t have to use all of your ideas for creative solutions. You can use a combination of solutions to solve your problem.

Be flexible

When you’re coming up with creative solutions for problems, you need to be flexible. Sometimes, you’ll have an amazing idea, but it won’t work out. That’s okay! The important thing is to be flexible enough to change course when you need to.

Now, you don’t want to be so flexible that you never take action. You want to find a balance between creativity and discipline.

Be flexible enough that you can change your course when necessary, but disciplined enough to follow through on your plans.

Creative thinking is just the beginning

Coming up with creative solutions is the first part of problem-solving. The second part is implementing those solutions. When you’re implementing your solutions, you need to be diligent and follow through with your plans. However, you also need to be flexible enough that you can change course when necessary.

If you implement your solutions, but you’re inflexible, you’re going to struggle to solve problems.

On the other hand, if you are too flexible and don’t follow through with your solutions, you’re not going to be effective either.

You want to find a balance between the two.

Bottom line

Creative problem-solving is a great skill for entrepreneurs to have. When you can use creative thinking to solve your problems, you’re going to find yourself more productive. This can help you reduce costs, increase revenue, and solve other issues you’re facing at your business. However, creativity isn’t magical.

You won’t be able to solve all problems with it. You need to be disciplined enough to follow through with your solutions, as well as flexible enough to change course when necessary.
